Description

Serve shaved ice to the Class of 2022 and try to get them to join ATS!

Materials

Tony checked storage in McCormick Country Kitchen to make sure we have:

  • Bowls (>100)
  • Spoons (>100)
  • Ice shavers (2) [but we only really need 1]
  • Trash bags
  • Gloves (lots)
  • Tape
  • Napkins
  • Lysol
  • Mixing bowl(s) [for holding excess liquid, see Apr 2018 page]
  • Can openers
  • Extra toppings from last year:
    • Coconut jelly (4)
    • Condensed milk (1)
    • Grass jelly (5)
    • Aiyu (2)
    • Lychee (1)
  • Banner (in stud storage, did not actually check LOL)

Jocelyn and Tony got toppings from CMart on Thursday evening (see bottom for list). This went fairly smoothly, but you should make sure you don't go too late, as they started closing as we were wrapping up shopping! Bianca let us into McCormick when we got back.

Plan

Met for prep at 1p (Bianca, Charlotte, Tony), jobs:

  • Get ice (fill up the cooler completely so we don't run out of ice) [we used the Maseeh ice machine, which was close but slow]
  • Make signs for different toppings
  • Bring above items to Johnson
  • Check in for ATS
  • Set up booth (check we have power!)
    • Set up interest form / family tree
    • Begin prepping toppings

During the event (Ben, Bianca, Catherine, Charlotte, Dillon, Elaine, Lillian, Tony), we want to tell people

  • what we do:
    • food our events feature plenty of (usually homecooked!) food
    • fun the wholesome variety :)
    • family we have a bunch of ATS families, and there's a big/little system! Families do fun things together throughout the year.
  • YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE TAIWANESE most of us aren't lol
  • the first event is Fall GBM this coming Sunday, September 9, in the McCormick Country Kitchen

After the event, Bianca and Tony cleaned and packed things up. Tony added all interested people to ats-info.

Remarks

  • Maseeh ice machine is slow.
  • Exec appreciated the babaozhou, keep doing this.
  • We couldn't get enough ice from Maseeh ahead of the midway, so Ben and Tony had to go to Maseeh a second time to get more ice.
    • Idea: bring a cooler to Next the night before, and have a Nextie exec fill it with ice from the ice machine in Next Country Kitchen
  • Having a bowl for liquids was nice!
  • Consider bringing scissors to cut the trash bags for taping to the table. (This ended up being a non-issue, since we just used keys to rip one open.)
  • Tony's computer kept going to sleep and he needed to go back often to type his password. Next time, make the sleep period very long.
  • The toppings might be tastier chilled? (Refrigerate them the night before?)
  • On the whole, went very smoothly!
