Event Captains

Location and Time

  • 2010: Kresage Field October 10th 2-4pm


Event Description

A fun event usually 2-3 weeks after welcome dinner for families to bond in a competition manner! Budget for this event is usually low. Make sure families come up with names! Send out sign up form ~2 weeks before event starts.

RULES

  • Everybody must participate as part of a family/joint-family/group
  • The goal is to bond within your family! :D
  • The best family for each event wins 5 points, the second place team wins 3 points, and third place gets 1 point.
  • After all events, family with most points will be declared WINNER! (And be the envy of all other families for an entire year)
  • PRIZES will include yummy food items and CERTIFICATES to proudly display on your door. (And make those around you jealous of your awesome ATS family)

2010 Events

1) BINGO

  • Bingo sheets will be handed out to every participating member.
  • Each square in the bingo sheet will have a random fact (ex. “is a senior” or “is course 4”)
  • Each person must go around (meeting new people!) asking other players to sign squares with pertaining facts.
  • Each bingo card can have max 2 squares signed by one person.
  • First one to get all squares filled will be declared winner and win points for his/her family! :D

2) RAT TAILS

  • Every person will have a piece of cloth or “rat tail” stuck behind them.
  • Everybody will run around trying to pull out other people’s tails who are not in their family.
  • Last person/family standing with tails will be declared the winner!

3) DRESS UP CONTEST (didn't happen because of time constraints)

  • Each family must choose a representative to play dress up!
  • There will be 10 shirts that this person must put on.
  • Fastest dresser upper wins!

4) TUG OF WAR

  • This will be done tournament style!
  • Two families will be pitted against each other and engage in an epic battle of TUG OF WAR.
  • Winning family will move on to compete in the next round!
  • This will go on until one is declared the winner!

5) JELLY EATING CONTEST

  • Each family will sit in a circle and get a set number of jellies.
  • In order to eat, the person next to you must feed you.
  • You must swallow EVERYTHING before you begin feeding the next person.
  • Fastest family to finish all jellies win!

6) WHEELBARROW RACE

  • Relay race!
  • Family members will pair up. One will be wheelbarrow and the other person must lift the “wheelbarrow’s” legs and the “wheelbarrow” must walk using their hands.
  • Fastest team wins!


7) FAMILY JEOPARDY

  • Spelling Bee style
  • Each round, two family members from each family are chosen to come up.
  • A question will be asked about one of the participating family members and the family members will be asked to whisper the answer in the moderators’ ears.
  • If the answers match, the family is considered safe. If not, the family is eliminated.
  • Last family standing wins!
  • See attached list of questions (STUDY STUDY STUDY!)

Family Jeopardy

Two members from the same family will participate at the same time. The same question will be directed at both family members asking about the other family member or a fact about the family. If the answers match/are both correct, the family is safe! Else, eliminated.

Question bank:

  • 1) What is his/her favorite color?
  • 2) How many times have your family gone on family gatherings?
  • 3) Where does the other person live on campus?
  • 4) What course is the other person?
  • 5) What is the other person’s Greek affiliation?
  • 6) What state/country is the other person originally from?
  • 7) What is your family’s name?
  • 8) Who is the oldest in your family?
  • 9) Who is the youngest in your family?
  • 10) What is the other person’s favorite book or song?
  • 11) Name one class the other person is taking this semester.
  • 12) What is the other person’s favorite food?
  • 13) What did the other person do for IAP?
  • 14) What will the other person do for the summer?
  • 15) How did you meet?
  • 16) Name the other person’s favorite pastry
  • 17) Name the other person’s favorite ATS event.
  • 18) What’s the other person’s favorite holiday?
  • 19) Name another organization the other person is in besides ATS.
  • 20) How many people are currently in your family?
  • 21) Who is the tallest in your family?
  • 22) Who is the shortest in your family?
  • 23) What is the other person’s favorite drink?


8) BAOBAO EATING CONTEST

  • Each family will choose a representative.
  • Two baobao pastries will be provided for each representative.
  • Fastest to finish will earn points for his/her family! :D

9) MULTI-LEGGED RACE(didn't really happen due to time constraints but it was a favorite the year before)

  • Similar to three legged race but with MANY MORE LEGS
  • Family members’ legs will be tied together.
  • Fastest to race will win!

10) PHOTO CONTEST (didn't really happen, but it's still fun to take pictures of everyone)

  • Time will be given for each family to come up with poses for each of five categories (Best family-like, Most gangster, Best in Taiwan, Most creative, Best freshman pose ß Up to your own interpretation).
  • Winners will be declared after conclusion of family field day via email.
  • Separate certificates will be awarded for these :]

11) WATER BALLOON TOSS

  • Members in each family will pair up.
  • Each pair will receive a water balloon.
  • Pairs must toss balloons back and forth until it pops or breaks or splashes.
  • With every successful toss, the pairs must back away from each other one step each.
  • Last pair standing earn points for their family! :D
  • Make sure this is the last event so that people can clean themselves up after getting wet XD

Shopping List/Materials

  • Bingo: Just print out bingo sheets. Update the items inside the squares if you feel they need to be updated.
  • Rat Tails: Cut/rip up old unwanted t-shirts donated from exec. There should be some spared from 2010 in storage
  • Tug of war: Rope (from Economy Hardware) should be in student center storage
  • Jelly Eating Contest: Around 3 buckets of Jelly (2 for the actual contest, one for prizes) from Cmart
  • Baobao eating contest: We got around 20-25 pineapple buns from baobao. We ordered the night before and then picked it up the morning of.
  • Water Balloon Toss: These were hard D: All the drug stores didn't have balloons left by October because apparently they weren't in season so make sure to get these OVER THE SUMMER. Luckily in 2010 there were some left over from the previous year in storage.
  • Also get pocky and gummies for prizes. Just be under budget and you're good to go :D

Attendance

  • 2010: ~40-50 people. It was a huge success!

Notes

  • When booking Kresage, make sure to say that there is no food even there is >_>" This is so that they don't get paranoid and start investigating.
  • A better way to do family jeopardy is to ask all families the SAME question for each round. Or else they complain that it isn't fair...which it probably wasn't X_X
