Description

ATS hosts Family Field Day a couple weeks after pairing Big and Little Sibs together so that families have a chance to have fun and bond with each other. Families compete against each other for first, second, and third place. Prizes are awarded!

Events

  • ATS Bingo
    • Print out bingo sheets and bring pencils
    • Encourage mingling
  • Rat Tails
    • Reuse shirt strips stored in Student Center storage
    • Can get a little rough... people were tackling opponents
  • Jelly Eating Contest
    • Provide equal number of jellies to each family (we bought 4 buckets and each family got 20)
    • Need to clarify rules about swallowing before feeding to next person. Maybe use spies from other families to monitor?
  • Human Knot
    • Large families are severely disadvantaged, so not really fair... it went very quickly for some and not so quickly for others
  • Pastry Eating Relay
    • Purchased 25 pastries from Bao Bao the day before and picked up the morning of
    • Each family sends 3 representatives and they each get a pastry to eat relay style
    • Consider providing water (cups, couple of gallon jugs of water) during this event... people were... having difficulties
  • Tug-of-War
    • Need better, more consistent way to mark crossing lines on each side (we used rat tails)
    • Plan out bracket beforehand! Had trouble deciding who should compete for third place
  • Red light/Green light 3 legged race
    • Victor's fun experiment
    • Limit the number of pairs for each family (it got too crazy)
    • Use rat tails to tie legs together (location of tying: thigh or ankle?)
    • Hard to hear
  • Water balloon toss
    • Buy regular balloons and not water balloons because they hold more water and survive longer... until they unexpectedly pop on you
    • Fill about 50 balloons (or enough for half the attendees) and some extra so people can have fun at the end
    • Have this event last so people don't slip on wet grass

Attendance

~60-70 people

Total of 6 families participated. We combined 2 smaller families together and distributed orphans accordingly to try to even people out. The differences in family sizes increased because people started leaving in the middle of the event.

Prizes

  • 1st place: 2 large boxes of Hello Panda + 1 bag of gummies
  • 2nd place: 1 large pack of Pocky + 2 bags of gummies
  • 3rd place: 2 bags of gummies

Other Notes

  • A megaphone was surprisingly necessary
  • Bring trash bags and tell people to collect their trash!
  • Allow for water breaks or buy water next time
