Event Description

2013 1-3pm Johnson

Toppings Used

2013

  • 7 cans of fruit (12 oz) + 1 extra small can
  • 2 1/2 cans of red bean paste
  • 3 cans of coconut gel
  • 3 cans of condensed milk
  • 3 cans of aiyu jelly
  • 3 cans of grass jelly
  • 4 cans of lychee
  • 1 can of almond jelly

Strait to Taiwan was happening around the same time so rationing of shaved ice toppings was a little more flexible. Almond jelly is not necessary, we just randomly found it. We ran out of toppings right near the end around 3pm. Possibly stock up a little more just in case?

Normally we wait until the end to give out shaved ice to non pre-frosh but I didn't realize (oops!) and happily gave shaved ice to everyone. People were really happy and I felt the love for ATS so maybe consider doing that in the future if we have enough supplies?

Materials Checklist

  • ALL the toppings!
  • cooler of ice
  • Shaved ice machines (bring two? we only used one)
  • Scissors for cutting lychee
  • Plastic knives to cut jelly
  • Squeeze bottle for condensed milk

  • trash bags (1 for trash, 1 for recycling)
  • tape
  • papers towels (we took a bunch from McCormick bathrooms)
  • styrofoam bowls
  • spoons
  • banner
  • can openers
  • pink bowl for pouring out jellies for easier cutting (draining part of bowl not necessary)
  • shaved ice sign => make a new one?
  • gloves
  • Bandaids in case of can opening accidents

Logistics

2013

  • Reserve a booth when ASA sends out the email. Request power outlets.
  • Make sure to check in on the day of by the required time.
  • Have CPW cards ready to hand out to pre-frosh.
  • Bring all supplies to using our black carts. Put cans on the bottom because they are heavy. Don't forget the cooler of ice!

Additional notes:

  • We didn't end up using the wooden stands this year.
  • Perhaps make a new shaved ice sign? Ours has been through a lot and we didn't end up even using it.
  • We serve people their ice and toppings! (so they talk to us and also so we can control the amount we give them)
  • Keep spoons on our side and make sure everyone gets a CPW card. We had one person in front of the booth chatting with pre-frosh and giving out cards while they were in line.
  • Might help to know what all of the different jellies taste like...
  • We managed with about 4 people at the booth. (1 attracting attention/handing cards, 1 shaving ice, 2 handling toppings)
