Description

TAIPET UBER SUPER HAPPY FUN EVENT. Senior dinner took place at an early time this year (4:30pm) because some of the seniors wanted to catch the Logs concert that night. We also had it on campus - not for this reason, but it turned out to be a fortunate decision.

We originally planned to have it in New House 6, but the residents emailed us about a week after and asked if they could use it that night for their house dinner. We decided to move spots to be nice to the people who actually live in the location. The McCormick Penthouse was our next place, but the reservation got messed up and we ended up using the McCormick PDR instead. It was a fortunate mistake, though, because the PDR is REALLY NICE, with fancy chairs and tables and paintings. We kind of were in there unofficially (the McCormick desk worker got us in when we realized the penthouse reservation was messed up) so we had to be extra clean.

Food

We ordered from a new place, Blue Asia, in Allston. Their website has instructions on catering - you have to email the owner Julie (juliefeng26@hotmail.com) to get the menu since it's not online. Julie is a little slow to respond and can take a few days, so email her well in advance. The food was definitely worth waiting for responses though, and she is super helpful and friendly. Remember to ask for an invoice to get reimbursed! :)

About 25 people attended the dinner, and we had some leftovers. No one ate the vegetarian delight lolol. We ordered:

  • Taiwanese Salt & Pepper Chicken with Basil
  • Curry Pork Cutlet Rice Roll
  • Taiwanese Style Stir-fried Rice Noodle with Pork
  • Vegetarian Delight

Note: from Julie on sizes/portions, "Our 1/2 pan Size catering tray is good for 20 people servings. But you can serve it to 25 people if you want."

We also bought a crapton of aloe/calpico from (newly opened!! :D) Hmart, and surprisingly fancy plastic champagne flutes off Amazon. It was a good decision - and for once there was extra aloe left over.

Super Secret Special Sauce Stuff

  • Tian and Clare organized making special presents for Emily, Steph Yu, and Victor. We hand made plushies for each of them (butcher knife for Emily, parsnip for Steph, aubergine for Victor) and printed out legit looking Certificates of Authenticity. They are called Taipets. :)

(since the wiki is supposed to be for historical purposes, if it ever comes to the point in the future where no one knows the taipet story, please email cmzhang. pls.)

Other Notes

  • It was brought up that senior dinner is usually at an off-campus restaurant since getting away from MIT is good. But also, there are a lot of events going on at the end of the year that people want to go to. Try to gauge if seniors want to go to any and avoid those dates. We just ended up having a really early dinner on campus.
