Event Description

Big-little social event involving bonding activities and melona bars!

Attendance

About 100 people showed up, about 10 people who RSVP'ed did not show up

Food

Melona bars -- 1 per person!

Set Up

• Get food ahead of time.
• Make a sketch of the room before hand / take pictures so you can easily put the room back together
• Clear furniture to the sides of the room
• Set up a table outside the room to place name tags --> It probably would have been better to have two tables, one for littles, and one for bigs, so nobody will try to see who their sib is before entering the room. And include care package boxes on the big tables to give to their little. (Hide nametag icons to prevent people from finding out their sibs)

Materials

• Name Tags -- had matching name tags for bigs and littles, Clare used the 17 icons to make name tags. Each family would have their own color, and in the family, each big-little pairing would have their own icon. Thus, littles could find their families based on people with the same color, and find their big if that person had the same color AND icon. For families with more than 17 new littles, we used two colors, such as light blue + light blue, split evenly between the two shades of blue. Name tags were printed out and cut using Copytech on glossy 8x11 paper.

• Care Packages -- organized by the one and only Clare, had laser cut parachutes (by Grace), and folded boxes that were filled with asian snacks (1 hello panda, 2 gummies, 1 hi-chew). We bought 3"x3"x3" boxes on Paper Mart. Shipping is pretty expensive since it's from California - which also means you should order boxes at least two weeks in advance.

Other Notes

• Make sure you have a historian / capable camera person free / not busy meeting littles to take family pictures.
• Make sure we have people (preferably without littles) manning the front tables to tell bigs and littles what to do.
• Tell exec ahead of time to decide what to do when families have combined
• About 20 min, melona bars were given out.
• About 30 min in, families were segregated into sections.
• Families went around introducing themselves played games, took family pictures.
• Generally event ran smoothly, though it was a bit crowded (aka cozy?)
