Event Description

Xifan Sunday occurs several weekends a semester, always on Sundays (obviously). Exec wakes up early and cooks xifan and other breakfast foods for general body members. Setup usually starts at 9am, and the event starts at 11am and goes until 1pm-ish. Held in McCormick Country Kitchen, McCormick residents usually attend. It is one of the smaller ATS events and used to always be free, now we charge $3 for non-members.

Xifan

Ingredients: 1 cup rice : 7 cups water

  1. Make 5-6 cups of rice in each large pot.
  2. Remember to stir periodically so that it doesn't burn!
  3. Sometimes after awhile the rice can get sticky or too thick--add more water, and put it on low to medium heat :)

Fried tofu

Ingredients: tofu, eggs, oil, sesame oil, soy sauce, scallions, sugar

  1. Beat eggs and heat oil and sesame oil in frying pan.
  2. Cut tofu into small blocks, about 1.5"x1.5"x0.5".
  3. Dip tofu in eggs, then put into frying pan. Add soy sauce and a little sugar.
  4. Fry until brown on both sides.
  5. Add scallions on top.

蛋餅 (dan4 bing3)

Ingredients: dan bing skin (plain pancakes), eggs, oil, salt

  1. Beat eggs and heat oil in flat pan.
  2. Add salt to eggs
  3. Scoop up some egg
  4. Pour the egg on pan and put tortilla on top right away
  5. Swivel pan around to allow the egg to spread
  6. When egg has cooked, flip over and cook other side of dan bing.
  7. Roll up and cut into pieces
  8. Eat the ends, they're not pretty

Attendance

Last time we had a total of 60ish throughout the course of 4 hoursish. That was an extremely successful one though.

Notes

Someone at McCormick has to reserve the Country Kitchen by using the McCormick reservations form online at http://web.mit.edu/mccormick/www/form.html at least 3 days in advance. Below are detailed instructions on how to book the room (or any room in mccormick)

three general rules you should know:

  1. the over 20 rule: if over 20 people, at least 1/4 must be mcc residents.
  2. you need to book rooms 3 days in advance. try to book it earlier than that
  3. you can only book for 4 hour slots. (this is adjustable when absolutely necessary--aka for very big events where we need something for a long time)

Directions for booking a room:

  1. Check to make sure the room is not reserved: http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=mreservations%40gmail.com&gsessionid=cwKiJllgfIQ
    • if the room we want is already booked then either book a different room, or discuss with exec about holding the event elsewhere
    • if there is another event that is scheduled right before ours, book it starting as soon as they have it ended. then it's justifiable to kick them out once x o'clock comes around.
    • if there is another event that is scheduled right after ours, end it half an hour in advance.
      • usually, for xifan sundays, don't bother booking too early. we usually end around 2, so booking from 10 to 2 is fine. usually there's no one there that early in the morning, so it doesn't matter.
      • for events such as strait to taiwan, that requires pretty much overnight use of a kitchen, then book from like...6pm to 10pm (no one's usually there after that), and then book the following morning from 10 am to 2 pm. that usually covers it.
  2. fill out the room reservations form here AT LEAST THREE DAYS IN ADVANCE. best to do it a week or two in advance, in case trouble comes.: http://web.mit.edu/mccormick/www/form.html
    • so for this, it's easier to make a word document..on one page, put down all the people on exec, sorted into mcc and non mccormick people. use this for when you're booking for exec meetings and such. it's not over 25 people so don't worry about having 1/4 mcc people in attendance.
    • have another page for bigger events, and write down all the mccormick people you can think of. on the non mccormick list, write down all the people in ats that you can think of.
    • you can copy paste these into the boxes when necessary :)
  3. you will get an email back from the room reservations chair
    • she will approve. yay! you are victorious!
    • she will tell you that it needs to be sent to judcomm. she usually fwds it to them, and they usually approve. victorious again!
    • she might tell you to clear with colleen--just talk to colleen about it, tell her what event this is, and for what group, and she'll tell you if you need anything special, i.e. a complete guest list (tell david to make an RSVP thing, and print that out before the event), or a welcomer (have someone on exec--probably a girl) stand by the lobby and direct people to wherever the event is being held)
    • Only McCormick residents can book the CK, and can get the CK key.
    • Sometimes, it is difficult for people to get into McCormick because of front desk sign-in issues. Remember to inform front desk worker of the event.
